Pittsburgh – Have you thought about joining a carpool or vanpool, but are worried about what might happen if you need to leave work suddenly to pick up a sick child or take care of an unexpected personal or family emergency? What if your boss asks you to stay late at the last minute and you need a way to get home? CommuteInfo has a new service that can put those concerns to rest and make carpooling and vanpooling more convenient than ever.
Starting January 1, 2006, registered commuters in the CommuteInfo program who also participate in a registered carpool or vanpool are eligible for the new regional Emergency Ride Home service. The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission’s CommuteInfo Program Emergency Ride Home service is designed to provide a contingency option for registered commuters participating in a registered carpool or vanpool in the event of an unexpected personal or family emergency, personal illness, unscheduled overtime, or other eligible event.
“The regional Emergency Ride Home service was developed as a direct response to commuters’ concerns about what they would do in case of an unexpected emergency,” said Lisa Kay Schweyer of the CommuteInfo Program. “CommuteInfo helps commuters connect with vanpools and carpool by suggesting match-ups with fellow travelers, and provides information on transit, walking and biking. Now commuters can feel even more comfortable giving carpooling or vanpooling a try, knowing that this service is available.”

PITTSBURGH— The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (SPC) wants all commuters to be aware of the commuting options available in Southwestern Pennsylvania by proclaiming May to be CommuteInfo Commute Options Awareness Month.
As gas prices steadily increase, many of us are looking for ways to save some money. Every day, approximately 60% of the region’s 1.5 million workers travel outside their resident municipality to work. That can add up to lots of money spent on gas. Alternatives to driving alone, like carpooling, using public transit or biking to work, are just a few ways to lower your bill at the gas pump.

Pittsburgh, PA; July 6 - Want to save money on getting to work and get a chance to win a reward? CommuteInfo and The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership are offering a special, first time ever, promotion to encourage regional workers to find out more about the commuting choices available to them by offering a chance to win one of three $50 gift cards offered each month. By filling out a commuter profile at www.CommuteInfo.org, workers get free information on transit and a personalized report of their commuting options: carpooling, vanpooling and bikepooling. They also are entered into that month’s drawing for one of three $50 gift cards to regional businesses/restaurants.
“We are happy to be providing this incentive for regional commuters to learn more about the options available to them,” said Kathy Stefani of The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership’s Transportation Management Association.

CommuteInfo Encourages You to Find a Better Way to Work on National Dump the Pump Day on June 8
Pittsburgh, PA; June 6 - CommuteInfo announced today that it will recognize National Dump the Pump Day on June 8. CommuteInfo joins with public transportation systems in Southwestern Pennsylvania and throughout the country to demonstrate that public transit is a quick and easy alternative to the high cost of driving for many consumers. National Dump the Pump Day is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), a non-profit association of more than 1,600 member organizations, including almost 400 public transit agencies.
